Horizon Festival of Arts & Culture – Public Art

For a really immersive creative experience, take time out to explore one or all of the dynamic public art trails available from Friday 25th August to Sunday 3 September, 2017.

This first list is public art on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland:

  • Herd of Cows: Bunya St, Maleny (Artist – Janna Pameijer)
  • Apparatus for Expedient market Deployment:  Ananas Comosus – Simpson Street, Beerwah (Artist Russell Anderson)
  • Strangler Cairn:  Conondale Range Great Walk (Artist Andy Goldsworthy)
  • Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden – Sculpture Garden with more than 30 works nestled amidst a lush and beautiful landscape.
  • Sunshine Coast Hinterland Poetry Trail:  Located in Maleny, Montville and Kenilworth – there are seven works to discover on your journey.

Private Dayle William MORRISON

The Maleny RSL is trying to locate any
family members of

Private Dayle William MORRISON

 Who was born in Maleny on 12 August 1945 and died during Operation Coburg on 26th January 1968.  He was a member of 2RAR.  He was laid to rest in the Garden of Remembrance at Mt Gravatt.  His Commemoration position is Wall 3 – Row E.

 A Mr Rob EADE is from Cessnock NSW and is travelling around Australia to present small flags to those fallen Veterans.  On Friday 28th July 2017, Rob attended the RSL Maleny Sub Branch Memorial Hall to present a small handheld Flag in memory of Dayle.  Without this information from Rob we would not have known that Dayle has a link with Maleny.  Some members of 2RAR Association were in attendance of the presentation.

 Art St Maleny is a collaborative  celebration that, together with Maleny Music Festival, will bring art into public space through local cafes, parks and venues to celebrate the creative energy of the Maleny community.  Art St presents a series of events, workshops, public art installations and opportunities for visitors to engage their senses.

From Friday to Sunday 1st to 3rd September, 2017 : –

Maleny Music Festival – at the Maleny Showgrounds.  Maleny Music Festival website

Eat Our Art! – Local cafes celebrate food as a medium for creativity making delicious signature arty dishes using food as a paintbrush and the plate as the canvas.

Traditional Maori Basket Weaving Workshop with Alice Spittle – daily at Tesch Park, Coral Street,  10 am to 4 pm Cost $69 (includes materials).

Forest Art Trail – Designed to educate children about native wildlife, follow the map along a wonderful forest walk to discover 15 art features created from nature’s gifts, recycled materials and other creative recourses – daily on the Obi Boardwalk connecting Maleny Showgrounds to Coral Street.  Cost – Free.

Homeless Week in Maleny

What would you pay to NOT have to sleep rough tonight? Please help our fundraising efforts during Homeless Persons Week (7th-11th August) outside the Maleny IGA. Funds raised will go to an Emergency Accomodation at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre, and our Tiny House Project.

Maleny Rangers Indoor Football

MALENY RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB – Indoor Football
Every friday, starts at 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Maleny Main Hall, Activity Centre

Costs: Under 13 year old’s – $5 and Over 13 year old’s & Adults – $7.50

Played during the summer which is the off-season for the Sunshine Coast Football Association. Under 13 year olds play every Friday night from 6 pm to 7:30 pm and Over 13 year olds and Adults play from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, in the Main Hall, Maleny Activity Centre, 50 Bunya Street. It is a great game to keep your outdoor football skills fine-tuned, to have fun and get fit.

Community Lunch.
Every Second Thursday, from 12:30pm.
Maleny Neighbourhood Centre, 17 Bicentenary Lane, Maleny.

Held at 17 Bicentenary Lane every Thursday from 12.30pm. The food is prepared in our kitchen by volunteers and we cater for vegetarians and meat-lovers. We ask for $5 donation if possible. The lunch offers an opportunity for all members of the community to socialise.

Heart Foundation Walking Maleny Heart Beats

On the Maleny Info Centre website is an Activities List – which is a table of meetings that happen weekly / fortnightly.  If we had placed these events on the Events Calendar it would have been overwhelmed.  There are present just over 130 items and can be sorted/filtered by day of the week, where and category.  If you have an item for this list please email Maleny Info Centre email

The activity being featured today is – HEART FOUNDATION WALKING MALENY HEART BEATS,  Maleny, Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 6:30 am start (Sep to May); 7 am start (Jun, Jul & Aug).  Various meeting points.  Walk approx 5 klm or 1 hour (depending on your speed).  All walk to their own fitness level – always someone to walk with.  There are also 3 or 4 social lunches a year.  Contact Mal Somerville 5499 9290.
