HEARTBEATS WALKING GROUPS

On the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.  Various meeting points. Walk approx 5 km or
1 hour (depending on your speed).  Starting time 6:30 am start (Sep to May); 7 am start (Jun, Jul & Aug).

All walk to their own fitness level – always someone to walk with. There are also 3 or 4 social lunches a year.  Contact Mal Somerville  07 5499 9290.

Why the Heart Foundation recommends walking

There are many ways to be physically active, but walking is the number one activity Australian adults do on a regular basis. Walking is so popular because it is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. It can be done just about anywhere and is free. Walking also has a very low risk of injury as it is low impact (not jarring on the joints) and doesn’t require any special equipment or training.

Heart Foundation Walking is structured around organised groups as this complements the social aspect of walking. When people walk in groups, they can talk while they walk and it’s a great way to get to know your neighbours and neighbourhood.

We understand that not everyone lives near a Heart Foundation Walking group or can not make it to every scheduled walk. To encourage everyone to walk, Heart Foundation Walking includes a Virtual Walking group where participants can track their progress online.

Private Dayle William MORRISON

The Maleny RSL is trying to locate any
family members of

Private Dayle William MORRISON

 Who was born in Maleny on 12 August 1945 and died during Operation Coburg on 26th January 1968.  He was a member of 2RAR.  He was laid to rest in the Garden of Remembrance at Mt Gravatt.  His Commemoration position is Wall 3 – Row E.

 A Mr Rob EADE is from Cessnock NSW and is travelling around Australia to present small flags to those fallen Veterans.  On Friday 28th July 2017, Rob attended the RSL Maleny Sub Branch Memorial Hall to present a small handheld Flag in memory of Dayle.  Without this information from Rob we would not have known that Dayle has a link with Maleny.  Some members of 2RAR Association were in attendance of the presentation.

A chance to learn to act, sing, move, make music, gain confidence, become a performer – and have fun! Limited to 20 per class and under the auspices of Catherine Steer, BA Hons. Performing Arts, PGCE (a qualified drama teacher, Blue card holder, First Aid certified and with over 25 years’ experience in theatre) the Maleny Youth Theatre is for school aged children. Classes are held in the Maleny Playhouse, Maleny Showground (the first building on the right from the main entrance with a fenced parking area in front of it), on Tuesdays from 5:15 pm to -7:15 pm during school term.

Maleny Players

Are an amateur theatre group. Under the auspices of Catherine Steer, BA Hons. Performing Arts, PGCE (a qualified drama teacher, Blue card holder, First Aid certified and with over 25 years’ experience in theatre) they put on regular plays throughout the year. The Maleny Players are usually to be found at The Playhouse, Maleny Showground, Maleny. As you enter the main entrance to the Showground bear right and it is the first building on the right with a fenced parking area in front of it. It is a simple, wooden raised building but we have exciting plans to extend and smarten it up and make it more user friendly both for the public and the performers.

Objectives follow their State Branch, providing support to serving and ex-service persons and their dependants; to encourage mateship; and educate Australia’s youth in the achievements of our Armed Forces. On the local front they arrange commemorative events; visit sick and invalided veterans, arrange social events; and maintain the historical Maleny RSL Memorial Hall.
