Rubbish and Recyclables : What’s What
Everybody’s doing it – (recycling that is) – Could we do it better?
Have you been faced with the dilemma of what’s rubbish and what’s recyclable? Can you put the same items that are recyclable at Sunshine Coast Council recycling facilities into your yellow lidded bin? or the public place recycle bins? Glass jars and bottles are recyclable, but what about tin/plastic lids and bottle tops?
Come along and hear:
- A presentation by a Guest Speaker from council’s Waste 2 Resource Education Program who will give us the drum on all things recyclable.
- Our Office Manager, Theresa Bint, who will share the challenges of Plastic Free July, both in the office and at home, practical and existential.
If you have items of rubbish that you suspect are recyclable but are unsure whether they belong in the yellow lidded bins, bring them along (washed please) and find out where they’re meant to go.

Were you aware that people in Maleny and surrounding districts can return their hired videos from Network Video in Landsborough – in Maleny? This service is proving popular.
Network Video Landsborough – the Home Entertainment Experts, is at 40 Cribb Street, Landsborough – Telephone 07 5494 8711.
The owner was telling me that he has many customers from Maleny – so many that he has arranged for a drop-off chute at the Organic Shop, on the corner of Maple & Myrtle Streets. The box is emptied daily – thereby saving customers the trip down the hill just to return the videos.
Hire of video’s is through a ‘Pay It Forward Card’ which costs $35 for 10 rentals (down from $5.95 each) – a saving of $24.50. Also Click here to check out their Facebook page

Many also give a guest rating – to help you decide where you would like to stay. However there are a few businesses that don’t have on-line booking systems and for these the link will advise you to email and/or telephone.

To celebrate the beginning of spring, Maleny’s newest native plants nursery opened its doors and knowledge to the public.
Spencer and Karen Shaw have lived in Maleny for the last two decades and have shared a love of all things Fauna and Flora for many more. They are passionate about education and building a better understanding of our local Flora and the benefit of using native plants. Their vision is to create a more sustainable and ecologically friendly environment for not only ourselves and our wildlife, but for future generations of both kind to come.
Photo from their first day of being open – taken from Forest Heart Facebook page.
They have a large range of native tube stock at the nursery, 20 Coral Street, and many more beautiful species at their wholesalers nursery located just out of town in Reesville. Along with this, they have re-vegetation materials such as bamboo marker stacks, pink tree guards, mulch mats, carton guards, animal nest boxes supplied by Hollow Log Homes and books on both Fauna and Flora.
Find them at either 20 Coral Street Maleny from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm and Saturday’s from 8:00 am till 12:00 pm.
Alternatively, you can also find them today and tomorrow at the Maleny Real Food Festival.
For more information click here to go to Forest Heart Facebook page, or alternatively here to go to the official Brush Turkey Enterprises website.

Mobile Advertising is affordable effective & increasingly popular.
“An increase in advertising spending on the mobile sector has followed greater smartphone penetration among users, with smartphones and tablets becoming the primary device for many consumers. The digital economy began to take hold a decade or so ago, and some organisations were fast to react to it. The naysayers saw the impact of the internet on their business as a fad that would soon fade away. The digital economy is here to stay and those who fail to participate will become the road-kill on this superhighway. One of the real threats to traditional business is that those who are embracing the digital economy have a real chance to grow their business faster and thus widen the gap between the winners and the losers.” (Taken from an article ‘Australia – Digital Economy – Sector and Industry Transformation)
