Sunshine Coast Hinterland Art Trail

Artisans at the House:  A display of two and three dimensional artworks by local artists.  Date Fri 25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, Yandina Historic House, 3 Pioneer Rd, Yandina.

Dying to Know – A Journey of Life, Loss and Renewal:  An inter-generational collaboration exploring death and renewal through the eyes of student photographers under the mentorship of master photographer Colin Beard.  Date:  25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, 2017, Nambour Social, Currie St and Old Ambulance Station, Howard St, Nambour.

Rust & Lace:  An exhibition of wall-hanging assemblages by Nathalie Bastier.  Date Fri 25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, 2017 (closed Monday), Art on Cairncross, 3 Panorama Place, Maleny.

Sunshine Coast Ar Trail

Patterns in the Landscape:  Manning Daly Art will create patterns in the sand with designs inspired by local plant species, enhancing the spectacular Sunshine Coast beaches.  These large scale creations are drawn directly onto the sand only to be washed away with the tide.  The ephemeral nature of the art is a reminder of the transience of our valuable landscape.  Date:  25 Aug;  Time:  Artists on site 2 pm to 6 pm; Location:  Kings Beach, Caloundra; Price:  Free.

Australis Plasticus:  An Art for ARTsake site specific installation demonstrating the dangers of plastic and litter in marine areas, sending the message that plastic is not welcome in our ocean.  Australis Plasticus, the morphed sea creature, will suspend and crawl from the Coolum Surf Life Saving Tower.  Date:  Fri 25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, 2017; Time:  Daily; Location: Coolum Surf Life Saving Observation Tower, Coolum;  Price:  Free

Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2017:  A national contemporary exhibition showcasing 40 finalist working in a 2D medium.  Date: Thu 17th Aug to Sun 8 Oct, 2017;  Caloundra Regional Gallery, 22 Omrah Ave, Caloundra.

Maroochy Gunyah – Historical Images of South East Queensland Gunyahs:  A photographic exhibition of traditional Indigenious shelters from the South East Queensland Region.  Date Sat 26 Aug to Sun 27 Aug, 2017.

Standing Here: A beautiful installation comprising of naturally dyed squares of fabric, bringing together the natural dyeing work from communities around Australia.  Date Fri 25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, 2017, USC Sunshine Coast, 90 Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.

Creative Generation – Excellence in Visual Art Awards 2017:  An exhibition showcasing the best of the region’s senior high school artwork.  Date Fri 25 Aug to Sun 3 Sep, 2017, USC Sunshine Coast, 90 Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.

Wearable Art Exhibition:  A bespoke exhibition of ‘lost arts’ responding to the theme of wearable art.  Date Fri 1 Sep to Sun 3 Sep, 2017 at Caloundra Arts Centre, 5 North St., Caloundra.

Horizon Festival of Art and Culture – Street Art

Stand By Me:  Watch internationally renowned street artist Beastman (Bradley Eastman), one of Australia’s most distinctive and prolific emerging contemporary artists, alongside MIMI (Emily Devers), an accomplished multidisciplinary artist who develops pertinent and timeless concepts.  The Maroochydore Revitalisation Association (MRA), Maroochy Music & Visual Arts Festival (MMVAF) and Horizon have partnered to bring these prolific artists to the Ocean Street Precinct.

See these two street artists creative live mural art in a couple of locations within the Ocean Street Precinct from Monday 28th August to Wednesday 30th August, 2017.

Live Mural Art – 28, 29 and 30th August 9am to 5 pm at the Alleyway, 7 Ocean St and 37 Duporth Avenue, Maroochydore.

Artist Talk and Question & Answers – 30th August between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Alleyway, 7 Ocean St, Maroochydore (wet weather venue Machu Picchu).

Caloundra: Downtown Caloundra is emerging as an urban creative hub.  There are nine street art works to see, all in comfortable walking distance.

Discover murals by artists David Houghton, Thom Stuart, Fuzeillear (aka Claire Matthews), Joel Birch, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, Andrew Frazer, Adam Lewczuk, Ryan Sullivan, John Waldron, Steven Bordonaro and Cassie Munson.

The trail loop is approximately 1.7 km.  Council recommends starting at the Caloundra Regional Gallery and wander up through Lamkin Lane to discover The Pavilion and The Lighthouse. Take a stroll up Bulcock Street to the top of the roundabout and down to the Dingle Wall. On your way back down Bulcock Street cross the road and turn left into the laneway towards the Transit Centre. Here you will discover Ma and Pa and to the left, behind you, Miniature Panthers. Head south along Williamson Lane, to discover three other works.

Once you are done, grab a refreshing juice, smoothie or coffee in Bulcock Street or a wine on the waterfront along The Esplanade in one of Caloundra’s premier cafes or restaurants.

Nambour:  Uncover the groundswell of street art across Nambour’s streets and lane-ways.  Recognised as a n emerging hub for street art, Nambour was a satellite location for the 2017 Brisbane Street Art Festival.  Wander the urban streets of Nambour and discover eight large-scale artworks by artists David Houghton, EJ Zyla, Mieke Salna, Conrad Square, Mandy Schone-Salter, Simon Degroot, The Brightsiders, Adam Lewczuk, Ryan Sullivan, Michael Foley and Bianca Beetson.  Nambour CBD also features four integrated and sculptural Public Artworks to check out along the trail.

The walk should take about an hour and a half or a little more if you enjoy a coffee at one of the local café’s along the way.  The trail loop is approximately 2.3 km.  There are 13 works of art to discover, highlighting the local history, colourful stories and meaningful expressions by some of our best local and national public art artists.

For a really immersive creative experience, take time out to explore one or all of the dynamic public art trails available from Friday 25th August to Sunday 3 September, 2017.

Private Dayle William MORRISON

The Maleny RSL is trying to locate any
family members of

Private Dayle William MORRISON

 Who was born in Maleny on 12 August 1945 and died during Operation Coburg on 26th January 1968.  He was a member of 2RAR.  He was laid to rest in the Garden of Remembrance at Mt Gravatt.  His Commemoration position is Wall 3 – Row E.

 A Mr Rob EADE is from Cessnock NSW and is travelling around Australia to present small flags to those fallen Veterans.  On Friday 28th July 2017, Rob attended the RSL Maleny Sub Branch Memorial Hall to present a small handheld Flag in memory of Dayle.  Without this information from Rob we would not have known that Dayle has a link with Maleny.  Some members of 2RAR Association were in attendance of the presentation.

 Art St Maleny is a collaborative  celebration that, together with Maleny Music Festival, will bring art into public space through local cafes, parks and venues to celebrate the creative energy of the Maleny community.  Art St presents a series of events, workshops, public art installations and opportunities for visitors to engage their senses.

Eat Our Art! – Local cafes celebrate food as a medium for creativity making delicious signature arty dishes using food as a paintbrush and the plate as the canvas.

Traditional Maori Basket Weaving Workshop with Alice Spittle – daily at Tesch Park, Coral Street,  10 am to 4 pm Cost $69 (includes materials).

Forest Art Trail – Designed to educate children about native wildlife, follow the map along a wonderful forest walk to discover 15 art features created from nature’s gifts, recycled materials and other creative recourses – daily on the Obi Boardwalk connecting Maleny Showgrounds to Coral Street.  Cost – Free.
