Berganns Lane Walk

Berganns-Lane-Walk1-212x300

2.2 km return / Easy / 40-60 min return: Bergann’s Lane Walk  is a Sunshine Coast Regional Council managed walkway, approximately 9 km from Maleny.  It is a 30 metre wide road reserve, traversing rolling green farmland to either side.  At the Bergann’s Road end there is a section of uncleared remnant rainforest that is a reminder of the original forest cover of this area.

In 2005 Caloundra City Council opened the Bergann’s Lane Walk to the public after extensive weed control and re-vegetation works (including over 5,000 plantings) undertaken by Brush Turkey Enterprises.  The re-vegetation works are already providing valuable habitat linkage for native birds and fauna to move through the farmland.  Bird watchers will enjoy the work for it variety of habitats.  Enjoy this easy stroll along grassy walkways and through forest tracks.  “Note wheelchair accessible”.

Remember:  Wear sturdy, enclosed boots or shoes.  Surfaces can be slippery.  Carry drinking water.  Plan to complete your walk well before dark.  Wear a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.  Stay on marked tracks.  Use a map or track guide.  Ensure an experienced adult accompanies children.  Obey all safety and warning signs.  Take a charged mobile phone.  Accidents have happened, even to experienced bushwalkers.  In case of emergency try calling 000 or 112 if you are experiencing bad recption.  Domestic animals are not permitted on the walks.

Fig Tree Walk

Fig_Tree_walking-map-210x300

1.1 km return / Class 2 track – Easy – Wheelchair Accessible – Walks – Fig Tree Walk

6.5 km south of Kenilworth on the Kenilworth –Maleny Road lies one of the jewels of the Hinterland walks.  This easy 1.1 km return wheelchair friendly walk explores the riverine rainforest near the junction of Little Yabba Creek and the Mary River.  This walk was completed in 1994 by the Youth Conservation Corps.

Walk quietly and you may hear a Wompoo pigeon, see skinks basking in the sunshine, and glimpse birds flitting about the forest’s understorey and foraging in the leaf litter.

Beware of the Giant Stinging Tree.  Lookout for the heart shaped leaves on the track and railings.  When touched they can cause pain that will last for weeks.  Dried leaves can still sting.  If stung use sticky tape or hair removal wax was to remove the fine stinging hairs.

You will enjoy some wonderful interpretive signs strategically placed around this delightful circuit where you will learn more about the rainforests of the Hinterland.

There are delightful picnic areas in the car park and across the road from the boardwalk entry.
