On Wednesday 8th July 2015 30 volunteers set off to first check out Gerrards Lookout on the Maleny-Montville Road – the views across to the ocean are magnificent and photos do not do it justice.
Then on to Elle’s Place in Main Street, Montville Elle’s Place website . An open-plan villa with 3 bedrooms, it can accommodate three couples or six singles and is most attractive, modern and furnished with excellent taste. There is lovely kitchen, two bathrooms and ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning. A private walled garden and a large covered deck for outdoor dining add to the luxury feel – and there is off-street parking. Guests can self-cater or walk the short distance to the Montville cafes and restaurants. Rates for 6 people on weekends (with a two night minimum stay) are $350 per night; and slightly less for 2 or 4 people.
Our group then drove to Kondalilla Falls Road to see the Chapel of the Angels, 14 Kondalilla Falls Rd, Montville Chapel of Angels website. This is a purpose-built non-denominational chapel which is available for weddings, funerals or indeed any other purpose, and it includes some very exotic furniture and wall hangings as well as pews rescued from an old church in Victoria. There is a studio room downstairs which can be used for interior photos if it is wet, and/or for the bridal party to dress. For weddings, the chapel can be hired for a half or a full day and it accommodates up to about 90 people. The chapel is set in a pretty garden and there is a substantial area for car parking off the street.
The Falls Rainforest Spa Cottages The Falls website, 20 Kondalilla Falls Rd, Montville, just a few steps along from the chapel, is a very large Queenslander created from two houses brought to Montville from Ascot in Brisbane, 17 years ago. Alan, our host, explained that the main house is mostly used by bridal parties, small corporate groups or 3-4 couples travelling together. This accommodation is fully self-contained, has four air-conditioned bedrooms and breakfast supplies are provided. There is also free WiFi. Alan showed us round the living room which is furnished with a number of antiques and old paintings brought out from his family home in England. The Falls also include six cottages below the main house. The approach to the cottages is very steep and Alan is happy to ferry guests down (and/or up) in his car if needed. He prides himself on the service The Falls provides and said he feels the popularity of the accommodation is as much due to little extras such as free barista standard coffee and fine teas, free transport to and from Montville restaurants and advice on things to do and see in the area.
By the end of the morning, we were all really looking forward to morning tea, which was provided at Elements at Montville Elements Website, 38 Kondalilla Falls Rd, Montville. Thanks were due to Alan from The Falls, who arranged this for us. On arrival there we wandered around the shop and admired the goodies on sale, then sat down for a bit of R & R – duly earned, we felt!
